Ubisoft Partners with Immutable to Develop Web3 Games
AAA gaming studio Ubisoft has announced its partnership with blockchain game firm Immutable to collaborate on developing Web3 games. This collaboration will combine Ubisoft’s expertise in mainstream gaming development with Immutable’s experience in integrating decentralized functionality into games.
Nicolas Pouard, head of Ubisoft’s blockchain initiative, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience.”
Immutable co-founder and CEO James Ferguson emphasized the importance of this collaboration for the Web3 gaming sector, saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to explore with Ubisoft the benefits of Web3 and digital ownership for players. We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to bear to ensure the partnership’s success.”
Immutable’s flagship titles, including Guild of Guardians, Metalcore, Shardbound, and Infinite Victory, have already showcased successful demos. These games offer various genres that incorporate Web3 aspects such as immutable ownership of in-game assets.
Additionally, Immutable recently launched the test network of its zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup gaming solution, Immutable zkEVM. ZK-rollups have gained attention as a significant layer-2 Ethereum scaling technology, enabling high-throughput and low-cost transactions for decentralized applications.
Immutable’s gaming platform provides infrastructure for gaming studios to build games that run on the Ethereum blockchain. As 2024 approaches, Web3 games are beginning to make their way into the mainstream gaming space.
This partnership between Ubisoft and Immutable signifies a significant step forward for the Web3 gaming industry. With the combined expertise of both studios, players can expect innovative and immersive gaming experiences that integrate blockchain technology.
