An Ongoing Crypto Donation Campaign Raises Over $7.6 Million for Children Worldwide
An ongoing crypto donation campaign dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide has received over $7.6 million to date. Philanthropic foundation Save the Children’s HODL Hope Campaign aims to collect $10 million by the end of 2023, and it is currently $2.4 million short of its target.
At the time of writing, half of the funds raised, approximately $3.83 million, were donated in Ether (ETH). Bitcoin (BTC) donations constituted 34% of the total cryptocurrencies raised, with a value of a little over $2.6 million. USD Coin (USDC), a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, represented 7% of the donations, amounting to nearly $520,000.
Other cryptocurrencies that were used for donations included Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Tezos (XTZ), ThunderCore, Tether (USDT), Litecoin (LTC), and Solana (SOL). The campaign also saw significant contributions from the Own The Doge (DOG) and PleasrDAO communities, who donated over $1 million in ETH.
Anonymous donors accounted for $3.9 million of the total campaign donations, highlighting the privacy and anonymity features that cryptocurrencies provide. The ease of cross-border movement of funds through cryptocurrencies has enabled greater participation in donation events for global causes.
In a similar move, the Singapore Red Cross recently started accepting crypto donations in partnership with Triple-A. The charity now accepts BTC, ETH, USDT, and USDC, opening doors to a new segment of donors who are tech-savvy and wish to contribute through their digital assets.
By leveraging the power of cryptocurrencies, these donation campaigns are able to reach a wider audience and make a significant impact on improving the lives of children worldwide.
